How to cancel Google One

Updated 2026-07-09 · GhostSubs guides

Google One is the paid storage layer over Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. Cancelling drops you to the free 15 GB shared across all three — your files stay, but if you're over the limit, new uploads and even incoming Gmail eventually stop.

Cancel from the Google One site directly, or through Google Play if that's where you subscribed (common on Android).

Cancel Google One

  1. Open Google One settings. Go to one.google.com in a browser, signed in with the right Google account, and open Settings from the left menu.
  2. Cancel membership. Click "Cancel membership" and confirm through the screens. Your paid storage lasts until the end of the billing period.
  3. Android / Play billing. If you subscribed on Android, the cancel flow redirects to Google Play — or go straight to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions and cancel Google One there.
  4. Get under 15 GB. Check your usage at one.google.com/storage. Google's storage manager finds large files, old backups, and heavy emails to delete quickly.

What happens over the free limit

Over-quota Google accounts can't upload new Drive files or back up new photos, and after a prolonged period Gmail stops accepting incoming mail. Google also reserves the right to delete content in accounts that stay over quota for two years — so don't cancel and forget if you're far over the line.

If you barely exceed 15 GB, ten minutes with the storage manager (empty trash, delete old device backups, clear "large attachments") often makes the paid plan unnecessary altogether.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my files when I cancel?

No — existing files stay. You lose the extra storage headroom, so uploads and backups stop working while you're over the free 15 GB.

Does cancelling Google One affect Gmail?

Only if you stay over quota: eventually your account can stop receiving new email. Get under 15 GB and Gmail is unaffected.

I can't find where I'm billed — Google or Play?

Check play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions first; if Google One isn't listed, you're billed directly and cancel at one.google.com.
