How to cancel Spotify Premium

Updated 2026-07-09 · GhostSubs guides

You can't cancel Spotify Premium from inside the mobile app — Spotify only lets you do it on the website. That one detail sends thousands of people in circles every month.

Cancelling doesn't delete anything: your account, playlists, and saved library all survive. You simply drop back to Spotify Free (with ads and shuffle-only mobile play) when the paid period runs out.

Cancel Spotify Premium

  1. Open your account page in a browser. Go to spotify.com/account and log in. This works from a phone browser too — it just can't be done inside the Spotify app.
  2. Find your plan. Under "Manage your plan", click "Change plan".
  3. Cancel Premium. Scroll to "Cancel Spotify" (or "Cancel Premium") and confirm. Spotify shows the date Premium ends — you keep it until then.
  4. If you subscribed through Apple. iPhone-billed subscriptions must be cancelled in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Spotify.

Watch for the cancel-then-resubscribe trap

If you cancel and later re-subscribe, check your email receipts carefully — you should see a cancellation confirmation followed by a new order confirmation. Keeping both makes it easy to verify you're only being charged once.

Spotify's receipts arrive as a PDF attachment on an "order confirmation" email, and renewal charges don't always generate a new email — so your inbox may understate what you're paying. Comparing against your card statement once is worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my playlists if I cancel Premium?

No. Playlists, liked songs, and followers all stay on your account. You only lose Premium features — offline downloads, ad-free playback, and on-demand mobile listening.

Why is there no cancel button in the app?

Spotify only supports cancellation through spotify.com/account in a browser (or through Apple if you subscribed on iOS). It's deliberate friction — go to the website.

Can I get a refund?

Spotify generally doesn't refund partial months; Premium simply runs until the end of the current billing period.
