How to cancel Netflix

Updated 2026-07-09 · GhostSubs guides

Netflix makes cancelling fairly painless — there's a dedicated cancel page and no retention phone call. The catch is knowing where you're billed: if you subscribed through Apple or Google rather than netflix.com, you have to cancel there instead, or the charges keep coming.

Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so you keep watching until the date you've already paid for. Netflix doesn't give partial refunds for unused days.

Cancel Netflix on the web

  1. Sign in to Netflix. Go to netflix.com in a browser and sign in to the account that's being charged — check the email on your Netflix receipts if you're not sure which one.
  2. Open the cancel page. Go directly to netflix.com/cancelplan, or click your profile icon → Account → Membership → Cancel Membership.
  3. Confirm the cancellation. Click "Finish Cancellation". Netflix shows the date your access ends — screenshot it for your records.
  4. Check for third-party billing. If you don't see a cancel option, you're probably billed through Apple, Google, or a mobile carrier bundle. Cancel in that platform's subscription settings instead.

What happens after you cancel

You keep full access until the end of the paid period, then the account goes dormant. Netflix keeps your profiles, watch history, and recommendations for 10 months — if you rejoin within that window, everything comes back.

If you're billed through a carrier or bundle (T-Mobile, Jio, etc.), cancelling on netflix.com won't stop the bundle charge — you have to change the bundle with the carrier.

Cheaper alternatives to fully cancelling

If you're cancelling over price rather than lack of use, consider downgrading to the ad-supported plan instead — it's a fraction of the Premium price. You can switch plans on the same Account → Membership page.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get a refund for the rest of the month?

No. Netflix doesn't prorate — you keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and no further charges occur.

Why can't I find the Cancel Membership button?

You're most likely billed through Apple, Google Play, or a carrier bundle. The cancel option only appears when Netflix bills you directly. Cancel through whichever platform actually charges your card.

Does cancelling delete my watch history?

No — Netflix keeps profiles and viewing history for 10 months after cancellation, so rejoining restores everything.
