The single most important thing to know: audiobooks you bought are yours forever, membership or not. What you lose on cancelling is unused credits — so spend them before you confirm.
Audible pushes hard to keep you, offering pauses and discounts through the cancel flow. The flow itself lives on the desktop website; the mobile apps won't let you cancel.
Cancel your Audible membership
- Spend your credits first. Unused credits vanish when the membership ends. Buy audiobooks with every remaining credit before you start.
- Open Account Details on the website. Sign in at audible.com in a desktop browser (or request the desktop site on mobile), then go to Account Details.
- Cancel membership. Click "Cancel membership" at the bottom of the membership section, then click through the retention offers — pauses and discounted months — until the final confirmation.
- Save the confirmation. You'll get a confirmation email; keep it. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel in the respective app store instead.
Pause instead of cancel
Audible offers a pause (typically 1–3 months) that stops billing while preserving credits and member pricing. If you're just behind on listening, a pause is strictly better than cancelling — just note the auto-resume date.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose my audiobooks when I cancel?
No — purchased titles stay in your library permanently. Only unused credits and member benefits disappear.
What happens to unused credits?
They're forfeited at cancellation. Spend all credits before cancelling — that's the whole reason to cancel deliberately rather than in a hurry.
Can I cancel from the Audible app?
No. Use audible.com in a desktop browser, or your app store if that's where you subscribed.
