Amazon buries the Prime cancel flow behind several confirmation screens that offer to pause, remind you later, or switch you to monthly billing. Click through them — the option to end the membership is always on the final screen.
Unusually for a subscription, Prime can come with a refund: if you haven't used any Prime benefits since the last charge, Amazon typically refunds that payment in full when you cancel.
Cancel Amazon Prime
- Go to your Prime settings. Sign in at amazon.com, open Accounts & Lists → Prime, or go directly to amazon.com/mc (Manage Prime Membership).
- Open membership management. Click "Manage membership" → "Update, cancel and more" → "End membership".
- Click through the retention screens. Amazon shows two or three pages of benefits you'll lose and pause offers. Keep choosing "Continue to cancel" / "End membership" until you get a confirmation.
- Choose when it ends. You can end benefits immediately (which may trigger a partial refund if you've barely used them) or let Prime run until the renewal date and not renew.
What you lose — and what you keep
Cancelling Prime removes free fast shipping, Prime Video, Prime Music, and the other bundled perks. Your Amazon account, order history, and addresses are untouched — Prime is a membership on top of the account, not the account itself.
If you mainly kept Prime for Video, check whether a standalone Prime Video subscription (offered in some countries) is cheaper than full Prime.
Frequently asked questions
Will Amazon refund my Prime fee?
If you haven't used any Prime benefit since your last charge, you're usually eligible for a full refund of that charge; light usage can produce a partial refund. The cancellation flow tells you the amount before you confirm.
Does cancelling Prime delete my Amazon account?
No. Your account, orders, and saved details remain — you only lose Prime benefits.
I was charged for Prime but never signed up — what happened?
One-click Prime trials during checkout are a common cause. Cancel via amazon.com/mc, and contact Amazon support for a refund — unused accidental memberships are usually refunded.
